Young historical museum is worth an hour or two and has the roll-up flag from the near-rebellion that started there. Not just old ploughs, they even have a videotape machine and some other more recent stuff. Also the cherry festival will be on soon. The cherry cannery is worth a look, there is a cafe in it which is lots better than OK. Cherry wine and you can buy 2kg cans of cherries.

Cowra – Japanese garden is very pleasant, there are genuine Japanese traditional goods on sale and display, ring the peace bell, the restaurant which used to be very s-l-o-w is now good. Bonsai plants and carp pool. There is also the Cowra fun museum with all sots of stuff including World War II German armored vehicles, cars, machinery, you name it. If you play golf the links is supposed to be fairly good.

Canowindra – has a historical early 20th century main street, hot air ballooning in the cooler weather (expensive) or take a look at the fossil fish museum (cheap). Good counter meals in a couple of the pubs. Decent motel at the end of the main street and another one on the edge of town which is supposed to have a very good wine list and food. I don’t know, never been in it myself. .

Vineyards and wine sales all over the region.

Bit further away – Dubbo. The Western Plains Zoo. This a seriously good spot. Try a meal at the West Dubbo Bowling Club, the food isn’t fabulous, it’s OK, but the view from the back of the club is great. A couple of good motels across the road and it’s just about walking distance to the zoo.

Goulburn – Big 1880s steam engine and water pump just off the Crookwell road, they start it up three or four times a year. The brewery built 1830 to a design by Francis Greenway is worth a look, has it’s own beer brews for sale. If you like churches the Catholic church is supposed to be worth seeing, fantastic Paragon Cafe on Auburn Street opposite the post office, been in continuous business since the 1930s and you will have to book a table, people wait outside for tables. Take a look at the big ram too (don’t bother with the food) and go round the corner from Auburn Street to look at the court house which is a great old building. There is also a memorial lookout tower on the edge of town.

Moss Vale – Antique shops – take money

Plenty to do and look at in the Snowy Mountains in summer. Boats, trout fishing, bushwalking camping.
