The best way is to meet some friend here to travel together.

The tips to travel alone are:

    1. Use a travel agency to arrange the itinerary.
    2. Don’t use informal taxis.
    3. Book a 4 or 5 stars category.

    Regards,

Females are easy targets for theft and rape, especially if you are gringo (pale skin, blond hair). Travelling alone is always risky regardless of sex. A travel agent is the safest but also most expensive. I would recommend flying into Lima, busing during the days to whereever you want to go. For tours find a local travel group and most likely you will be with other foriegners (especially with Machu Pichu in Cuzco).

    The BIGGEST Risks are:
1)Non Radio Taxi (the taxi’s w/o a phone number on the door) travel at night in cities.
2)Staying at shady hostels in nad parts of the cities.
3)Walking alone in cities at night.

Just be aware of your environment at all times, don’t dress like a normal tourist (and DON’T read the Lonely Planet or other guide as you walk anywhere–it’s a common sign you are lost or an easy target for theft). Enjoy Peru, awesome country!

    1) don’t go alone 2)if you must, have your hotel in lima send a car to meet you @ airport (try hotel nirvana, hnirvana18@hotmail.com) do not walk around lima at night alone – cuzco is ok if you stay around the plaza – aguas calientes (nearest town to machu) is great, stay at gringo bill’s hostal – dress down, watch your wallet, no exposed jewelry anywhere (i’m not kidding)
